She is a professor of Molecular Epidemiology of Cancer and the chair of the department of Epidemiology at Maastricht University (UM). Her research is part of the programme Prevention of the GROW research institute for oncology and reproduction at UM. She is the principal investigator of the Energy for life after ColoRectal cancer study (the EnCoRe study), a prospective cohort study of colorectal cancer survivors. She has a special interest in fatigue and chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy and a longstanding interest in colorectal cancer aetiology. She is co-chair of the Global Cancer Update Programme (CUP Global) of the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) International which provides a global analysis of scientific research into the link between diet, physical activity, weight and cancer. Matty Weijenberg represents UM within CPE and contributes to various activities involving the relevance of lifestyle factors in primary and tertiary cancer prevention.
