Professor Cross is a cancer epidemiologist within the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London. She is the Head of the Cancer Screening and Prevention Research Group (http://csprg.org.uk) and Head of the Section of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Imperial. After completing her PhD at Cambridge University, she joined the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics at the National Cancer Institute in the United States for 11 years. In 2013, she returned to the UK and joined Imperial College London. Her research interests are focused on gastrointestinal cancers. She leads multiple large-scale observational studies and trials of colorectal cancer screening and surveillance, which have altered national guidelines.
